63 lakh people could be displaced if ‘BJP bulldozers’ continue: Arvind

Calling it “the greatest destruction of independent India”, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday launched a scathing campaign against the BJP-led New Delhi Municipal Corporation. Claiming that a “BJP bulldozer” would destroy about 80 per cent of Delhi’s land, Kejriwal said he had advised all Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs to stand up against the “hooliganism”.

“In the last few weeks, we have seen the BJP-led MCD bulldozing and it is said that it will continue in the coming months. They say they will remove all restrictions and illegal constructions in Delhi. We are also against occupation, we do not want illegal construction, ”he said at a virtual press conference.

“In the last 75 years, Delhi has not been built as planned. More than 80 per cent of Delhi will come under illegal construction or occupation. The question then is, will 80 per cent of Delhi be demolished? ”, Asked Kejriwal.

“Why are you bulldozing people?” We will fix Delhi. Just as we have worked on education, health, water, electricity, we will also fix the occupation. But it is not right to bulldoze houses and shops. We strongly protest against this, “Kejriwal added.

The Delhi Chief Minister also questioned that the structures were being dismantled. “Papers are not being shown, no one is being given a chance. They just reach any colony with bulldozers and start breaking down anyone’s house or shop. The man is standing with papers in his hand, shouting, begging for mercy and asking to consider his papers. But no one is checking his papers, the bulldozer is being driven. That’s not right. We are against the way they are removing the occupation and we are against the criteria of their plan, ”he said.

“Their plan is to demolish all the unauthorized colonies in Delhi where there are about 5 million people. They plan to demolish all the pigeons where about one million people live. In addition they have compiled a list of three million properties where people have moved off the map and added a porch or an extra house. 63 lakh people will drive bulldozers. I believe this will be the biggest catastrophe in independent India. That’s not right, “said Kejriwal.

Striking the BJP’s election promise to build houses in unauthorized colonies, Kejriwal said, “Before the election, they said they would build houses where there are pigeons. And now, after the election, they have come to overthrow it. “

“In the last 15 years, the BJP has ruled the MCD. It is alleged that the ambassador provided the information to Hussein. Now that their term is over – their term expires on May 18, today is May 16, and there are only two days left. Do they have the constitutional and legal power to make such a big decision? He said.

Kejriwal said the decisions of the new MCD should be taken after the municipal elections, while assuring the people that his administration would look into regularizing all unauthorized colonies. “We are assuring the people of Delhi that we will solve the problem of occupation, regularize the unauthorized colonies and clean them up – we are building houses for the people living in Ghugi. It takes time, “said Kejriwal.
