Indian benchmark indices traded lower on Monday afternoon due to weakness in selected index heavyweights such as Infosys and ITC. The BSE Sensex, which touched an intraday high of 53,428, rose nearly 200 points to close at 53,000-mark. The NSE Nifty rose 50 50-odd points. Larger markets are surpassing benchmark indices. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were up 0.9% and 0.4%, respectively, against the benchmark 0.3% gain. Shares of Ambuja Cement and ACC rose 6% while Adani Group announced acquisition of স 10.5 billion (approximately Rs. 81,361 crore) stake in Swiss Cement major Holcim in all its Indian operating entities, including an open offer. A total of 56 stocks reached 52-week highs on the BSE, while 83 stocks were fresh lows intraday.
