An important meeting tomorrow to discuss online gaming, casinos and GST hikes

According to Business Today TV, the Group of Ministers for Online Gaming, Casino and Race Course (GOM), comprising representatives of eight states, will meet tomorrow morning to discuss the increase in GST on online gaming, race courses and casinos.

The Fitness Committee will present its views tomorrow if the GST on online gaming is determined on the amount of entry into the competition or on the total gaming income. After that, GoM will make a final decision which will be presented to the 47th GST Council.

The Fitness Committee, which consists of officials from various states, met earlier this week to prepare a report on online gaming, race courses and GST increases in casinos.

“There was a clear consensus at last week’s group of ministers meeting. We are awaiting the committee’s decision on whether to tax the 28 per cent GST gross or net price,” said a source familiar with the development.

The government formed a panel of state ministers in May last year to better assess the services of casinos, online gaming portals and race courses for levying GST. The GOM, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, met earlier this month to discuss the GST rates applicable to these three services.
