Astronomers have released the first images of the Milky Way’s massive black hole: see picture

It’s out. Astronomers have released the first vague and obscure captured image of a supermassive black hole at the center of our own Milky Way galaxy. The black hole – called Sagittarius A *, or Sgr A * – is the second to be depicted.

Sharing the image on Twitter, the National Science Foundation of the United States states, “Our own black hole! University of Arizona Ferral Ozil called the black hole a “gentle monster at the center of our galaxy” while announcing the new image.

The Milky Way Black Hole is called Sagittarius A (Starsick) near the border of Sagittarius and Scorpio. It is 4 million times larger than our Sun.

This is not the first picture of a black hole. The same group released the first one in 2019 and it was 53 million light-years away from a galaxy. The Milky Way black hole is very close, about 27,000 light years away. A light year is 5.9 trillion miles (9.5 trillion kilometers).
