Despite record daytime temperatures in Delhi, power demand has declined in the last few days, mainly due to holidays, DISCOM officials said on Monday.
A painful heat wave swept across the city on Sunday, with mercury rising to 49.2 degrees Celsius in Mungeshpur in northwest Delhi and 49.1 degrees Celsius in Najafgarh, southwest of the city.

“Demand is sluggish due to weekly holidays and Buddha Purnima holidays. In general, as the daytime temperature rises, the maximum demand increases with the increase in cooling load, ”said a DISCOM official.

With partly cloudy skies in Delhi, the minimum temperature on Monday was recorded at 30.8 degrees Celsius, four degrees higher than normal this season.
