DRDO has successfully tested anti-ship missiles

The Indian Navy today successfully tested its first home-made anti-ship missile, developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization, or DRDO. The flight from ITR, Chandipur was tested.

In a short video released by the Indian Navy, a Seeking 42B helicopter loaded with missiles was seen flying over a sea test range at Balasore off the coast of Odisha, while another helicopter observed the launch.

“This is the first indigenous air-launched anti-ship missile system for the Indian Navy,” the DRDO said.

According to the Ministry of Defense, all subsystems performed satisfactorily and sensors deployed across the test range and tracked the trajectory of the missile near the point of impact and captured all events. The missile employs many new technologies, including a domestically advanced launcher for helicopters. The missile guidance system included a state-of-the-art navigation system and integrated avionics.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the Indian Navy and the team concerned for the first development flight test. He said India has achieved a high level of capability in domestic design and development of missile systems.

Rajnath Singh also launched two frontline warships of the Indian Navy yesterday. Both INS Surat and INS Udayagiri were launched at Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.

Last month, India successfully tested a medium-range surface-to-air air missile off the coast of Odisha, proving the country’s capability. During flight tests, medium range surface-to-air missiles (MRSAMs) hit directly against high-speed aerial targets at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur.
