K Amanatullah Khan, AAP heavyweight has declared ‘Jamia’s bad character’

Controversial son Amanullah Khan is back in the soup after being arrested for clashing with Delhi police during a raid by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Thursday. A day after the arrest of the AAP MLA for trying to stop the anti-SDMC campaign in Madanpur Khadar, Delhi Police on Friday declared the AAP MLA a history sheet and a “bad character in the Jamia Nagar area”.

Clashes broke out between locals and police personnel led by Khan on Thursday when the mob tried to block the ongoing operation of the SDMC. After opening his history sheet, the Jamia Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) called him a “habitual offender involved in land grabbing and assault offenses” and noted that his activities needed to be monitored considering Khan’s criminal past. Khan is no stranger to controversy and has been in the news for a number of occasions in the past.

Who is Amanatullah Khan?

Born in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, Amanatullah Khan represented Okhla Assembly constituency in the 7th Delhi Assembly. In the 2020 Delhi elections, Amanatullah defeated BJP’s Brahm Singh and Congress’ Pervez Hashmi by a comfortable margin. After unsuccessfully contesting the Delhi elections on an LJP ticket in 2013, Amanullah Khan’s debut as an AAP candidate saw him defeat his nearest rival by a margin of 60,000 votes.

On July 24, 2016, Khan was arrested for allegedly threatening a woman. He filed a lawsuit alleging that Khan had threatened him with “terrible consequences.” A case has been filed against the AAP MLA at Jamia Nagar police station under section 506 (punishment for intimidation of a criminal) and 509 (words, gestures or actions intended to insult a woman’s modesty). Khan was kept in police custody for a day before being released on bail a few days later.

In 2018, an FIR was lodged against Khan for allegedly assaulting a Congress social worker after a clash between Congress and AAP workers. In the same year, Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash filed another case against Khan and his opponent Prakash Jarwal for physically assaulting Prakash at the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

In April 2020, Delhi Police registered an FIR against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan for allegedly threatening Dasna temple monk Yati Narsinghananda Saraswati after her alleged remarks against Prophet Muhammad and Islam.
