‘Really big moment’: Srikanth, other players in India’s Thomas Cup 2022 win

India’s victory in the Thomas Cup 2022 against 14-time winners and 2021 champions Indonesia was a remarkable feat that was celebrated with great vigor and enthusiasm. In the final, the Indian men’s team defeated Indonesia 3-0. This is the first time the Indian men’s badminton team has reached the final of the Thomas Cup tournament. The Indian men’s team reached the Thomas Cup semifinals in 1952, 1955 and 1979.

The Indian men’s team for the Thomas Cup included Kidambi Srikkanth, Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy and doubles players Chirag Sethi and Sattviksairaj Rankireddy. Legendary badminton coach Pulela Gopichand was their coach. Kidambi Srikanth stunned Jonathan Christie in the second singles match as India became the sixth country to win the tournament.

Lakshya Sen, on the other hand, defeated Anthony Sinisuka Gintingin, the first single Olympic bronze medalist at Impact Arena. Doubles Sattviksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty snatched the victory from the claws of Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjay Sukamuzlo in the first doubles.

Romance made a difference in the quarter finals and semifinals. He defeated Leung Jun Hao of Malaysia in the quarterfinals and Rasmus Jem of Denmark in the semifinals.

After winning the coveted Thomas Cup 2022 tournament, Srikanth told India Today, “Individual events are always different from team events and we rarely play team events and the Thomas Cup final is the biggest team event. So winning such a big event is a really big moment. It will take some time to find out what really happened. ”

Satviksairaj Rankireddy shared a glimpse of the tournament and wrote, “Yeh Dil Mange More. We came we played and won. We are the Thomas Cup Champion. This is India [is] For you Joy Hind. ”

Chirag Shetty writes, “Dreams are made with this. World Champion! 1.3 billion back in our country it is for each of you. Don’t stop dreaming! ”

Lakshya Sen also shared a glimpse of the tournament and wrote, “We did it. We are India. ”

Gopichand described the victory as bigger than the Indian cricket team’s victory in the 1983 World Cup. He said, “I would say that it is bigger in the badminton team (than winning the 1983 World Cup). I don’t think anyone ever imagined we would win something so big. Especially if you went to badminton countries like China and Malaysia and said that India is going to win the Thomas Cup one day, a few years ago they would laugh at you. But I think the quality of singles and doubles also confirms that we were able to do it. ”
